Willow Point isn’t like the other Hill Country resorts. We’re a unique haven with quaint log cabins and a reverence for Texas Hill Country wildlife. We love sharing our Lake Buchanan shoreline with a range of critters, big and small. To give just a small example of how many wonderful little neighbors we have here, we listed 5 species of Texas Hill Country wildlife for you!
- White-Tailed Deer
Texas has the most white-tailed deer in the U.S. They enjoy the heavily wooded section of Texas Hill Country, since it gives them ample space to roam as well as a more than sufficient hiding place. They’re beautiful, noble creatures that you’ll probably catch sight of at least once while staying in our of Lake Buchanan cabins.
- Golden-Cheeked Warbler
You will only find these beautiful birds in Texas woodlands, canyons, and ravines. They are unique to this wonderful state, and we’re happy to have them here! Look for them out Ashe juniper or oak trees before the weather turns. They migrate to Mexico and South America in the wintertime.
- Nine-Banded Armadillo
The nine-banded armadillo can be found throughout Texas. It is also the state small mammal of Texas (bet you didn’t know that was thing!). It is comparable to a cat in size, and tends to dig and burrow for shelter. They’re pretty cute, and they’re exciting to spot out in Texas Hill Country.
- Coyote
Coyotes can be found across the United States, but they’re very common in Texas Hill Country. They look a lot like German Shepherds, and are incredibly adaptable creatures that can survive in both wild and urban environments. They’re smart, nocturnal creatures that tend to feed on rabbits and other small animals. Keep your chihuahua indoors if you want it to stay safe from these guys!
- Texas Blind Salamander
Now this is an odd little critter. As its name suggests, it’s blind and native to Texas Hill Country. It doesn’t need to see since it dwells in water-filled caves in the area. For this reason it’s also pale, almost translucent in color. It’s really a sight to see.
These are just some of many species of Texas Hill Country wildlife to be found in or around Willow Point Resort. So why not book a stay at one of our Hill Country cabins and try catch sight of some of these amazing creatures for yourself?
