With the kids back in school and more sunny days on the horizon, there’s no better time to plan a weekend getaway to Willow Point Resort! Nestled deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, our lakefront cabins are an ideal destination for a little peace and quiet.
Located along the beautiful Lake Buchanan, Willow Point Resort is home to eleven private cabins each with their own gorgeous lake views. If you’re looking to get away for a few days, you can’t go wrong with a visit to Willow Point. To help you make the most of your trip here, we’ve put together a list of the 7 best things to do in the Texas Hill Country.
1. Taste the Wine at Hill Country Wineries
It’s no secret that the wineries of the Texas Hill Country are some of the best around. With several wonderful vineyards just a short drive from our resort, Willow Point is a perfect place to call your home base. Enjoy breathtaking views of rolling hills while you sip on some of the best wines Texas has to offer. A few of our favorite vineyards include:
Torr Na Lochs
Surrounded by rolling hills, Torr Na Lochs Vineyard is one of our top destinations for a relaxing afternoon. Covering three acres, the vineyard rests on a gently sloping hill where they grow Syrah, Malbec, and Petite Sirah varieties. In the tasting room, you can enjoy a free wine tasting offered exclusively to Willow Point guests. Don’t miss the outdoor tasting patio! Here you can take in the stunning Hill Country views while sipping a glass of your favorite Texas wine.
Fall Creek Vineyards
Located on the northwest corner of Lake Buchanan and just a short distance from Willow Point Resort, Fall Creek Vineyards is another favorite of ours. Established in 1975, the vineyard is the oldest in the Texas Hill Country and therefore, a must-visit. As you approach the vineyard, you’ll drive along a beautiful tree-lined driveway before reaching the tasting room. After a tasting, make your way to the outdoor patio with a bottle of their award-winning wine and enjoy an afternoon of rest and relaxation.
2. Build a Campfire
One of our favorite things to do in the Texas Hill country is enjoying an evening cozied up by a campfire gazing up at the stars. You provide the s’mores and we’ll provide the firewood! There’s nothing better than a warm fall night spent under the big Texas sky. Be sure to keep an eye out for the Harvest Moon this year! It’s set to make its appearance around mid-September. It’s a sight you surely won’t want to miss!
3. Go for a Hike
A morning spent hiking is a great way to work up a sweat while also taking in all the sights and sounds of the Hill Country. Immerse yourself in nature and soak in the surrounding beauty with a visit to two of our favorite state parks in the area.
Inks Lake State Park
Neighboring Inks Lake State Park is just a quick 15-minute drive from Willow Point Resort. Spend a few hours traversing the pink granite outcroppings and hiking past cedar and oak trees. If you’re up for a moderate hike, don’t miss the 4.4 mile Inks Lake State Park Trail that loops around the park. Observe deer, turkey, quail, countless bird species, and other wildlife as you explore this natural oasis.
Enchanted Rock
Another one of our favorite things to do in the Texas Hill Country is admiring the stunning of Enchanted Rock. Located about 45-minutes from Willow Point Resort, this state park is home to a unique pink granite dome that rises 425 feet above the surrounding terrain. With almost 11 miles of hiking trails, there are countless ways to explore the 1,640 acres that make up this park. Follow the Summit Trail to the top of the dome for the most magical Hill Country scenery.
4. Enjoy the Peace and Quiet
The kids are officially back in school! This means it’s the perfect time for grown-ups to plan a weekend escape. With a Summer full of family time and travel, September is a great time of year to take a relaxing trip to Willow Point Resort. Our cabins are perfect for couples to stay and enjoy quality time together, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. No early mornings to get the kids off to school or head off to work. Sleep in late. Or, make a pot of fresh coffee and spend the morning on your private deck overlooking the tranquil waters.
5. Relax by the Lake
As warm temperatures continue into September, you’ll be able to take advantage of this weather by spending a day lakeside. Grab a couple of beach chairs and set yourself up alongside the water. Willow Point’s private sandy beach is perfect for those that want to enjoy a little slice of lakefront heaven. Relax as you soak up the warmth of a late September afternoon. If you get too hot, just cool off with a dip in the lake!
6. Go for a Swim
With high temperatures persisting and the water still warm, spending the day at a nearby swimming hole is a fantastic way to cool down. Aside from our sandy beach on Lake Buchanan, one of our favorite local spots to take a dip in is Devil’s Waterhole. Located in Inks Lake State Park, it’s been considered among the top things to do in the Texas Hill Country for several years. You can take a quarter-mile trail or paddle up Inks Lake to get there. Daredevils will rejoice as this is a popular place for cliff jumping. But if you’re not feeling so adventurous, grab a tube and spend the afternoon floating on the surface.
7. Spend Time on the Water
If you prefer to row rather than swim, we’ve got you covered. At Willow Point Resort, we offer exclusive boat rentals to our guests. This includes a pontoon boat, jet skis, kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddleboards. Whichever water adventure you choose, you can easily reserve your rental online ahead of time.
