We did it! We made it through Thanksgiving, and the countdown to Christmas has officially begun! Don’t you love this season and all the magic it brings to our communities? After all, it’s the “most wonderful time of the year!” for a reason.

Why not celebrate the beauty of Christmas in one of the charming, picturesque towns of the Texas Hill Country?

It is a guaranteed memorable day trip into the Hill Country that can end with an equally special evening at the lake. 

Many wonderful things are happening in two of our favorite nearby small towns, Burnet, Marble Falls, and Johnson City, this time of year. Keep reading to learn more about what goes on during Christmas in the Hill Country! 

Burnet Christmas Events

Starting at the beginning of December, the quaint Texas town of Burnet kicks off the Christmas season with its Trail of Lights! This light show runs from December 3rd thru January 1st. 

Beginning on the east end of Wallace Riddell Park, thousands of lights create holiday sculptures, including a picture-perfect lighted tunnel. There are also static and dynamic light displays and a beautifully lit Christmas tree near the courthouse. It’s a stunning display worth seeing!

This spectacular Christmas in the Hill Country celebration in downtown Burnet includes a bicycle giveaway, snow slide and snow play area, live holiday entertainment, over 125 vendors, a Christmas parade, and more!

The town comes together and puts on an incredible display for children and adults. 

We recommend checking out these two special events if you make it to Christmas on the Square. The first is Christmas at Old Ft. Croghan. (Experience Christmas the way pioneers did!)

The second is Main Street Bethlehem (Dec 2-4th and 9-11th). This fantastic display features a live retelling of the birth of Jesus! Complete with livestock, costume, food, and more. Walk along the streets of old Jerusalem, taste the bread from the bread maker, watch the rope maker ply his trade, listen to the bartering, and see all the shops, the Inn, and even the jail.

Main Street Bethlehem is the Hill Country Christmas event of the season! The cost of admission is free, but they do accept donations. Visitors enjoy complimentary cookies and hot chocolate at the end of the walk.

Nearby Christmas Shopping

Christmas in the Hill Country wouldn’t be complete without shopping! Don’t miss the shops on the squares in Burnet and Llano. Our two favorite wineries are also open for tasting and shopping this time of year. Duri g your visit, plan a stop at Perissos Vineyards or Torr Na Lochs and enjoy both breathtaking views and unique and delicious Texas wine! 

Marble Falls Christmas Fun

If you venture just a little further, you can join in on more small-town Christmas fun in nearby Marble Falls. The  Walkway of Lights features 2 million lights on 130+ sculptures, which is spectacular! The cost is free, and Santa will be there from the North Pole. This is an impressive light show you do not want to miss.

You can also catch their annual Light Up Christmas parade on December 2nd. There will be many wonderfully decorated holiday floats and an ice skating rink!

Main Street on Marble Falls is home to many unique small businesses. They can help you find the perfect, locally-made Christmas gifts for your loved ones. We l ve the opportunity to “shop small” this time of year and support other local businesses; they are the heartbeat of our small towns!

Johnson City Lights Spectacular

Lights Spectacular is a Christmas light display so big NASA reported seeing it from space!

This Johnson City light display features over 2 million lights adorned on several buildings in their historic downtown square off Main Street, Memorial Park, and Pedernales Electric Cooperative headquarters. (The PEC campus is lit with more than 1.3 million LED bulbs!)

Visitors can enjoy carriage rides through downtown, local food, beer and wine, and Christmas festivities.

The holiday lights will glow from dusk to midnight through December!
